Summary In this case, two distinct rulers are presented. The first is Sargon of Akkad, founder of the Akkadian empire and legend of many scriptures. The second is his grandson, Naram-Sîn who is often portrayed differently from Sargon. Although both kings had tremendous victories in battle and ruled for several decades, Sargon managed to bond with his people, whereas Naram-Sîn used harsh punishments and broke several taboos to strengthen his hold on power and thus did not form good relationships with his people. This case will show the different methods of the two kings and their effective outcomes in leading an ancient empire. Students will be asked to evaluate the possibilities and limitations of family legacy, common beliefs, and absolute taboos
