The purpose of our research project was to examine the representation of women in Canadian broadcast news coverage, exploring the notion of substantive representation as it relates to gender, leadership, and framing. We engaged in a content analysis of news broadcasts that examine the representation of women and racialized minorities. Critically, this analysis finds that not only are women numerically underrepresented with respect to news broadcast appearances, they are also underrepresented with regard to holding key roles and platforms. This case provides an overview of the conceptual and methodological approach used to complete the research project
