Summary |
We look at the latest work of inveterate traveller and artist Stephen Eastaugh; Namila Benson travels to Tasmania for the Festival of Voices; and Kate Vigo performs in the studio.Art Nation profiles Australian-born visual artist Stephen Eastaugh who has been travelling the world for more than 25 years and has visited 80 countries. His experiences of this global movement and change, of time and place, have defined the subject choice and mixed media methods in the production of his art, most recently in painted textiles.Eastaugh claims he is 'geographically promiscuous' - a nasty form of travel sickness. Setting up studios in far-flung places like Ulaan Bataar, Ougadougou, Phnom Penh, Nuuk, Ushuaia, Nufa Alofa and Broome seems to be his normal modus operandi. He has had 50 solo exhibitions in a variety of locations from major world cities like Paris, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Sydney and Bangkok to a geodesic satellite dome at Davis Station in Antarctica.Eastaugh's latest exhibition, An Unstill Life at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Victoria will display 16 of his works which relate to his many journeys between 2004 and 2008.And to close the program, indie-pop singer Kate Vigo and the Underground Orchestra perform in the Art Nation studio |
