Summary |
One wrong step, one sudden illness or one unlucky break could mean a trip to the Emergency room. It's a place where dramatic stories of love, life and death unfold every day. With 70 cameras filming around the clock for 28 days, this series offers unprecedented access to one of Britain's busiest Emergency departments, at King's College Hospital in London. Each program focuses on patients who were treated within the same 24-hour period. This episode reveals what can happen when something goes wrong with the brain, including when patients suffer a stroke. King's is a specialist Stroke Centre, treating on average three cases a day, and doctors know time is of the essence.65-year-old cabbie Charlie Brown is making his second visit to King's in a week. Two days previously he crashed his cab and hit his head on the window. Charlie hasn't been the same since, and now a scan shows a large dark patch on the left side of his brain.Meanwhile, 89-year-old Peggy Pierce has been rushed into King's with a suspected stroke. This isn't the first time her husband Derek's had to take an emergency trip to the hospital with his wife, so he's braced for the worst. (From the UK) (Documentary Series) M (A,L) CC |
