Summary |
"A tragic, human and emotional period piece based in Sweden, about an enforced policy intended to create ‘a new man’, a country of healthy and strong citizens. During 1934 – 1976 women deemed feeble-minded, promiscuous, suffering from diseases such as epilepsy, or just poor, were considered unfit to have children and placed in institutions for sterilisation. Brought to public attention in 1999 with a series of articles in a daily newspaper, director Klaus Härö drew on the real-life experiences of his aunts who were among the victims of Sweden’s 42 year experiment in genetic engineering." -- website |
