Summary This book sets out to provide comprehensive coverage of Quality of Service issues within a heterogeneous network environment. Its approach is logical, beginning with a consideration of the factors that make up quality of service, before exploring QoS-oriented technologies: asynchronous transfer mode ATM, Internet Protocol versions 4 and 6 Ipv4 and Ipv6 and multiprotocol label switching MPLS. Hot topic QoS mapping is considered in terms of service-level specification (SLS) parameters and metrics, before the discussion turns to application scenarios of reference chaser bandwith controller (RCBC). The author provides in depth consideration of performance optimization through layers (POTL), network dedicated relay architectures and transport layer optimization over 8220;long fat networks8221;. Cases are evaluated using simulation and emulation platforms as performance analysis tools
