Summary |
Yalda Hakim presents Dateline from Afghanistan reporting on the future of the country following a decade of conflict. On 7 October 2001, coalition forces invaded Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. One of the aims was to remove the Taliban from power and create a viable democratic state.m Ten years later, the Taliban is no longer in power, but Hakim reports on the influence they have today in towns and regions around the country. As the allied forces are preparing to withdraw in 2014, Dateline considers what role the Taliban will have in the future of the war-ravaged nation.Reporting on life on the ground in Afghanistan, Hakim explores the uncertain situation facing the country. The government is in talks with the Taliban in an attempt to bring a political end to the war. However, the increase in insurgent attacks, including the recent assassination of the head of the government's peace council, Burhanuddin Rabbani, is leaving ordinary Afghans apprehensive about their future.
