Summary |
*This is a program about Rap battles, it contains frequent very coarse language, drug use and sex references*Aussie Battlers is an honest and witty look at the obsessive and dedicated world of MC Battling in Australia; a world where only true perfectionists make the grade ...(oh and it helps if you smoke a few cones for inspiration). This 55-minute observational documentary, by first-time documentary director Martin Taylor, follows competitors in Australia's most prestigious MC Battling event. The film focuses specifically on the MC battles, trailing the heat winners to the Australian National Finals. This competition will crown a single winner who will then go on to compete in the International Finals in Cincinnati, Ohio, where US$10,000 is up for grabs.Aussie Battlers delves beyond the competition, to analyse the words behind the rhyme. We are taken back stage and into the lives of these unique individuals where only sheer determination to know more words, in more combinations than anyone else, can feed the hunger to outwit an opponent with lyrical skill. In this world of MCs, lyrical battles are often mirrored with personal battles, with money, with addiction, with family, sometimes with the law.The rich array of Aussie characters is far removed from the American image of gangster rap. Five MCs are featured; MC Alexander the Commander - (Brisbane), MC Fevapres - (Melbourne), MC Marksman - (Perth), MC Rapaport - (Sydney) and MC Purpose - Adelaide).PRODUCTION DETAILS:Written, Directed & Edited by Martin Taylor.
