Summary |
First Steps to Emotional Literacy is a resource devised to support early social learning at a time when issues of behaviour, social inclusion and attendance are priority concerns within the education system. The program shows how children must first learn to discriminate and label their own emotions before they can focus on understanding other people's. The program consists of: An introduction to running the program, including the theoretical and research background; Practical strategies to support the program; How the program fits within the current legislative framework. In addition, the CD-Rom provides: Five interactive or downloadable storybooks designed for baseline assessment; A twenty-minute video film showing intervention in action; A PowerPoint demonstration for use in training staff delivering the program. This resource is structured to lead into the DfES curriculum guidance on the Social, Emotional Aspects of Learning and is also relevant for use with older children with language difficulties or an autistic spectrum disorder.
