Summary Hilary Andersson reports from Darfur, in northern Sudan, to investigate who the Janjaweed are and whether the first genocide of the 21st century is occurring in Darfur. Sudan has been ravaged by two decades of civil war. The latest fighting has pitted rebel black Africans against government forces in Darfur. The government says it is trying to put down a regional uprising, but it is also accused of sponsoring an Arab militia, known as the Janjaweed that has wiped out villages, killing their people and committing the most horrifying crimes against humanity. This documentary tells the story of a country ravaged by violence, fear and death. It exposes the plight of the villagers who were let down by their government and the international agencies.
