"Volume 1 of Huxley's compendium [contains] a tiny letter dated May 9, 1908 in Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker's hand, and written from his home at Sunningdale in Berkshire. This letter written in Hooker's old age, is to a friend, thanking her for a shawl sent to him as a birthday present, commenting on the material, and including Lady Hooker's thanks. The signature, "Jos. D Hooker", is particularly shaky" --- note provided by Dr. Elizabeth Truswell, Visiting Fellow, Research School of Earth Sciences, Australian National University re the National Library of Australia's RB MOD 2651 copy.
