Part I : The background of my experience -- Part II : Why are we failing?
Summary
"There is a great deal of information available regarding the poor health of the Indigenous people of Australia. There have been many attempts over many years to address this problem by government, yet there is no clear evidence that any of these attempts have had any effect at all. Why is this? This question was asked by the author whilst still a medical student. To find the answer he spent seven years working in Aboriginal health as a general practitioner, trying to understand Aboriginal people and why things such as alcohol abuse and violence were so common. There are many who seem to think that these things are “their fault” yet upon reflection this doesn't make sense. In fact, the author concludes that the reasons for these problems lie not with Aboriginal people but with everyone else. This book describes a personal journey of understanding, and discusses the problems encountered whilst working in this field, why they are encountered and why they persist."--Publisher
