Summary |
"MND has different names in different countries. Also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Lou Gherig's Disease or Maladie de Charcot, MND is a condition which relentlessly destroys the nerves that enable us to control the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow while leaving the intellect and senses generally unaffected. There is considerable variability between patients in respect of initial symptoms, rate and pattern of progression, and survival time after diagnosis. It is an uncommon, but by no means rare disorder. 'Speaking from Experience' offers first hand accounts from four people living with MND, their partners and parents. They discuss the issues at diagnosis and the impact MND has had on their lives." -- website |
