Summary Ring the doorbell and come on in to this episode of SCOPE dedicated to the many and varied places that animals call home! Get a bird's eye view of nests, go batty over caves and follow three gorillas on their journey to a new home! ARTIFICIAL REEFWhere natural reefs have been damaged or lost it can leave a lot of fish without a home. Paul Hamer, a Fisheries Research Scientist with the Department of Primary Industries, shows us how man made reefs can come to the rescue as an alternative home for fish.JUNIOR EXPERIMENT: HERMIT CRABHaving a pet is a lot of fun and also requires making sure they have a good home. Junior Scientist Will shows us how to set up a home for a hermit crab and explains how they also need to change their homes as they outgrow them.NESTSNests can come in all shapes and sizes and while mainly built by birds- some mammals make them too. Ecologist Dr Mike Weston from Deakin University shows us a few different types of nests and lets us in on his research on shorebirds and how monitoring their nests could increase their survival rate. GORILLA'S ON THE MOVEThese amazing animals are moving homes from Melbourne Zoo to an incredible new enclosure at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Keeper Kat Thompson from Werribee gives us an insight to exactly what is required when these gorilla's move homes. BAT CAVEBecause bats like the dark they choose to snooze in caves. Frank Bromley from Naracoorte Caves takes us inside a cave where bats live and shows us the infrared cameras that help them monitor the bats and how many babies are born.SPIDER WEBSSpider webs can be quite annoying for us humans to walk into, but to a spider they are home. Zoologist Mark Elgar from the University of Melbourne tells us about these incredibly strong silky webs and shares some of his research on the St Andrew 's Cross Spider and why they weave decorations in their webs.Join Dr Rob as he discovers there is no place like home and there is no science show like SCOPE!
