Summary |
A book examining the paradox that organism-environment interaction has been well documented for a variety of developmental outcomes but that this interaction has been difficult to demonstrate in behavioral research studies, the "Conceptualization and Measurement of Organism-Environment Interaction" is now off press. Examples of conceptual and methodological factors that have blocked researchers' abilities to identify existing organism-environment interactions are discussed. Some of these factors include studies with insufficient power to detect interactions, studies that oversimplify the processes of interactions, statistical analyses that are insensitive to certain interactions, research strategies that are marred by a poor choice of groups or measures, and a lack of the theory-driven research that is most likely to reveal interactions. By clarifying these shortcomings, the authors aim to promote more and better research on the developmental effects of organism-environment interactions.
