Description 1 online resource (17 minutes)
Summary Sam appears considerably more subdued than when she was in her manic episode and describes her mood as down. She is currently complying with her medications. At home, Sam is extremely frustrated by her mother's vigilance in making sure Sam continues to take her medication. Recently, they had a fight about Sam's medication and that she doesn't understand what Sam is going through. Taking the medication, Sam describes feeling a degree of numbness: "sad but not sad enough." Sam wants her mother to understand that she is feeling blocked and can't achieve a state of actually feeling something without going to an extreme. Lately, Sam has lost enjoyment in activities she loves, like theater and dance. These feelings have been most intense over the last two weeks, but she claims they started since she began taking the medications. When asked whether she has tried any substances to help with these feelings, Sam becomes quiet and unresponsive. After reassurances that the conversation is confidential, Sam admits trying alcohol to help her sleep. The experience only added to Sam's feelings of being "grey," and she became further depressed about drinking alone and paranoid that her parents would find out. In the past, Sam says drinking alcohol helped and was fun. Sam also tried some pot, which she describes as only making her feel weird
