He describes the culture of medical pluralism, typical for neo-colonial states, and people's choices of 'traditional' (local) medicine (plants and sacrifices), Islamic medicine (charms and various written solutions) and 'modern' therapy (biomedicine, in particular western pharmaceuticals).
