Journalist, soldier, civil servant, "historiomane" and tireless archivist, Viger was the first mayor of Montreal as well as the first president of the Société Saint-Jean Baptiste. Canadian neology is the only lexicon we have from this period. Written after that of Père Potier, but long before a lexicographical tradition was established in Quebec, this manuscript is an authentic and unique testimony to the language of the early 19th century.
