Summary |
The Pont-Neuf, wrapped, Paris, 1975-85 was a temporary work of art consisting of wrapping the Pont-Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, with 440,000 square feet of sand-stone colour, woven polyamide fabric covering the vaults and sides of the 12 arches, the parapets down to the ground, the sidewalks and curbs, the 48 street lights, the vertical walls of the embankment of the western tip of the Ile de la Cité, and the esplanade of the Vert-Galant. The project was completed on Sept. 22, 1985, and remained on view for 2 weeks. Includes a sample of the original fabric used by Christo as well as engineering drawings and diagrams, and excerpts from Jeanne-Claude Christo's work diary |
