Summary The spy who helped bring down the USSR...The Farewell File shows KGB agent Colonel Vladimir Vetrov as an arrogant and selfish man frustrated by his lack of promotion and recognition. In revenge he concocted a plan to reveal KGB secrets to the West, preparing a file of countless cases of KGB's technological theft that made it all the way up to Mitterand and Reagan and led to a mass expulsion of Soviet spies. Given the codename the 'Farewell', his dossier gave him the notoriety he was seeking. But when things began to unravel he lashed out, attempting to kill his mistress from whom he was stealing secrets, and killing a witness. Ultimately he was executed for treason. This two part documentary is his story. (From France in English, French and Russian, English subtitles) (Documentary Series) (Part 1 of 2) M (V) CC WS
