The Hubble Telescope has broadened our understanding of the universe, and the magnificent images it has sent back to NASA are both art and science. So in January 2004, many people were stunned when NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe came to a conclusion that, in effect, condemned Hubble to a premature death, by canceling future service missions.
