Summary |
Chronicling a year in the life of Ingemar, a 12 year old boy trying to understand life and death in 1950s Sweden. Sent to live with relatives in an eccentric rural town to give his overburdened mother a chance to recuperate from tuberculosis, the slightly troubled and slightly mischievous Ingemar begins to search for a place among his unconventional new family, encountering crazy adventures and life-defining moments along the way. Ingemar meets an array of colourful and interesting characters including tomboy Saga, with whom he shares a friendship. Ingemar’s new relationships sustain him through the trauma of his mother’s condition and help him to deal with the difficult questions it raises about life and death. |
