Summary
Celia Hannon is a research associate at the British think tank Demos, where previously she was Head of the Family and Society program. She argues that disillusionment with education systems in recent times is often derived from analysis that focuses on their internal workings, structures and outcomes. She suggests looking outwards, with a focus on the skills young citizens will need if they are to take an active role in improving their society. To this end, she proposes that 21st Century school should include an 'apprenticeship for social action'
