Summary |
"The infamous hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated New Orleans and the entire Gulf Coast. Besides the deaths and damage to property, the storms also ripped apart the main oil fields, damaging or destroying 192 rigs, 148 oil and gas pipelines, and five major refineries. As a result, almost 20 percent of the country’s oil supplies was shut down overnight. If left unchecked, this disaster could send fuel prices sky rocketing, creating a crisis for the international oil industry. In the biggest operation ever mounted by the American oil industry, oil companies have chartered a flotilla of ships from every corner of the world and an army of workers." -- web |
