Summary "On one side is Anwar Ibrahim, Leader of the Opposition, once before accused of sodomy, badly beaten and jailed, yet he still managed to pull off one of the most spectacular political comebacks in the region by winning a by-election with an increased majority. Anwar Ibrahim claims he will be Prime Minsiter by year's end. In the meantime though he's fighting a new sodomy charge. On the other side of the political ring is Najib Razak, Deputy Prime Minsiter and heir apparent. He has just succeeded in mounting a "coup" against Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, who's being blamed for the ruling UMNO party’s worst election result in 50 years losing the colation government's two-thirds majority in parliament. Badawi says he'll step down next March in favour of Mr Najib who believes he's born to rule. His father was Prime Minister following the race riots of 1969 and put in place the affirmative action scheme that favours ethnic Malays over other citizens. But Najib Razak has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He and his wife have been implicated in the murder of a translator, Altantuya Sharibuu, who had been working on highly sensitive defence contracts negotiations. Najib strongly denies the allegations. The murder has been the talk of Malaysia with information finding its way to the popular website Malaysia today, run by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin. Raja Petra has been detaiined without trial, under the country's harsh Internal Security Act, (ISA). Vatsikopoulos speaks with Anwar Ibrahim, Najib Razak and the former Law minister Zaid Ibrahim who resigned from the government over the use of the ISA." -- ABC website.
