Description 1 online resource (vii, 82 pages Summary Introduction: This report aims to facilitate improved outcomes for Victorian women and their babies by providing a focus for multidisciplinary performance improvement meeasures and quality activities for hospitals, program managers and clinicians. The development of the report was overseen by the Victorian Perinatel Safety and Quality Committee (PSQC), a subcommittee of the Perinatel Services Advisory Committee. Methods: All Victorian public hospitals providing birthing services are required to report data against the maternity service performance indicators. The indicators address both process and outcome measures for the three phases of maternity care, namely antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. Data from the report is derived from: Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset (VAED), which is presented by financial year Victorian Perinatal Data Collection (VPDC), which is presented by calendar year Manual collections from public health services. The report aligns with the aims outlined in the Victorian Government's Victorian Health Priorities Framework 2012-2022, in particular: Developing a system that is responsive to people's needs Improving every Victorian's health status and experiences Implementing continuous improvements and innovation Increasing accountability and transparency. The VPDC commenced electronic collection and reporting of data from 2009, enabling more timely submission of data by health services within the regulatory 90-day submission period. The transition to electronic collection and reporting has delayed publication of VPDC data for the 2010 and 2011 reporting periods.
