Summary This dataset example introduces the idea of weighting data before performing an analysis using it. Researchers weight data to help make sure that the sample of data they have for analysis reflects the population from which it was drawn. In this example, the use of weights for a categorical variable is illustrated using a subset of data from the 2012 General Social Survey (GSS). Specifically the reported marital status of GSS respondents is examined. Weights allows researchers to consider how representative their conclusions are for the larger population based on the analysis of their sample of data
