| Summary |
Narrated by Steven Lang, this film sets forth many of the lesser-known facts about the siege of Vicksburg that occurred during the Civil War. Under the direction of Major General Ulysses S. Grant, forces marched on this city, trapping many poorly prepared Confederate soldiers there. This victory over Lieutenant General John Pemberton's soldiers was one of the most decisive and devastating ones that took place in 1863. It basically destroyed the Confederacy's control over this important area surrounding the Mississippi. It has been estimated that close to 19,000 Americans lost their lives during this bloody battle. This film brings to life the many different societal values and practices that tore this country apart less than two centuries ago |
