SAVING BAGHDADAs ISIS extremists sweep down from Iraq's north towards Baghdad, Dateline's Fouad Hady joins a Shia militia group preparing to defend the capital. He meets a young suicide bomber strapped with explosives, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for his homeland, and gets caught in a vicious firefight. As the brutal jihadist group, ISIS, take more and more Iraqi territory, its numbers are swelling with not just local support, but with foreign fighters from Turkey, Britain, the United States and even Australia. World leaders including US President Barack Obama have condemned the insurgents, offering troops to help stem the tide of Iraq's coming storm. But can ISIS be stopped?HOTEL WALMARTWith almost 5,000 stores blanketing the United States, millions pass through Walmart's doors every day. But for some Americans, this isn't just a superstore - it's a place to call home. Since the housing crisis began, the world's biggest company is becoming better known as a safe haven for the country's homeless. No one knows exactly how many people are living out of their cars, but with well over a million on the streets these car parks have become de facto shelters. On Tuesday's Dateline, Nick Lazaredes reports on Walmart's car park dwellers living in the shadow of the retail giant.MALALA'S MISSIONA Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot and seriously injured by the Taliban has been meeting the parents of some of the schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria three months ago. Malala Yousafzai travelled there to show her support for the families of the 223 girls who are still missing. She also met some of the 53 girls who managed to escape. On tonight's Dateline, veteran BBC reporter John Simpson follows her visit and sees her appeal directly to the Nigerian President, who many accuse of doing little to secure their release. The Islamist militants behind the abductions, Boko Haram, want its fighters to be released from Nigerian jails in return for the girls' freedom |
