Summary |
During episode three, William and audio king Dave Stewart spend the day trekking through Lamington National Park, Queensland, recording the songs of our warbling wonders. From the 'crack' of the Whipbird to the 'screech' of the Cat Bird, William marvels at the vocal range of our Aussie songsters, but which will he pick as his favourite? In Brisbane William meets magpie expert Darryl Jones who explains that the melodic song of the magpie is actually a warning call. These black and white crooners dive bomb humans during their breeding season to protect their territory. William dons his best Aussie Post outfit and throws his leg over a bike to try and work out what makes magpies swoop at us.Next, with Natalie Doerr from Deakin University, William heads west of Charters Towers in Queensland to observe the courtship ritual of the Great Bowerbird.William then ends up in Sherbrooke Forest on the outskirts of Melbourne with Anastasia Dalziel to decipher the song of the Superb Lyrebird. They venture into the dark forest where William survives a close encounter with a leech that latches on to his lip!PRODUCTION DETAILS:6 x 28 minutes.
