Summary Based on the authoŕs experience in her PhD research, this case study focuses on how the senior tourists were extracted from microdata of a broad tourism survey on visitors to the Spanish region of Andalusia. Specific aspects discussed in this process are: (a) the definition of the senior or older group, (b) the process of preparing the data for the analysis, (c) methodological limitations derived from the structure of the sociodemographic variables (age and employment situation), and (d) the application of the segmentation criteria to the microdata
