For more than 35 years Emanuel Ungaro has been on a quest to seduce women. His love affair with women has translated into a multimillion dollar empire, and his dedication is evident not only in his designs, but in every aspect of his work. Spring 2001 would be the last time that Ungaro would take a solo bow on his ready-to-wear runway. In Fall 2001 Ungaro came out on the runway with his young protégé, Giambattista Valli. Ungaro was handing over the reins of the ready-to-wear house to the young Italian who was subsequently credited with bringing a fresh view to the house. After more than 6 years at Ungaro, Valli's contract with the house was not renewed. Valli has been succeeded by a stream of eager designers: Vincent Darre, Peter Dundas, and Esteban Cortazar |
