Summary As South Africa continued to play a key role on the United Nations (UN) Security Council during its second two-year term (2011-2012) as a non-permanent member, the Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR), Cape Town, South Africa, and Dalarna University, Sweden, brought together about 30 high level practitioners and scholars to support Tshwane's efforts on the Council. The meeting focused on how to strengthen South Africa's position on the Security Council in pursuit of greater cooperation between the UN's most powerful body and regional organisations, and a more democratic Council, in order to build sustainable peace in Africa. The policy advisory group seminar considered: South Africa's role on the UN Security Council; the relationship between the African Union (AU) and the Council; UN peacekeeping in Africa; the politics and reform of the Security Council; and the Council's role in West Africa, the Great Lakes region, the Horn of Africa, and North Africa
