Summary |
Only recently have studies focused on the neurochemistry of the vestibular system (VS). This text provides a needed comprehensive state-of-the-art review of the neurochemical organization of the VS, including both peripheral and central structures. The initial four chapters overview the anatomy of the VS and peripheral vestibular transmission. The neurochemistry of central vestibular transmission at the level of the vestibular nuclei is reviewed in chapters 5-9. Chapters 10-13 discuss the neurochemical mechanisms underlying vestibular control of movement and posture, while chapters 14-16 examine the neurochemical organization of sensory inputs to the system. The final two chapters address the neurochemical basis of plasticity and adaptation. Includes electron micrographs and other illustrations |
