Summary The Creighton Lecture series at the University of London was established by the historian and social activist Louise Hume Creighton (1856-1930) to commemorate her husband, historian and Church of England bishop Mandell Creighton (1843-1901). The first lecture was delivered on 4 October 1907 and has since been followed by annual events at the University. The Creighton Century, 1907-2007 offers a selection of ten lectures from the first 100 years of the series. Each of the chosen lectures, delivered between 1913 and 2004, is introduced and set in context by a historian who was then teaching at the University of London. The collection is introduced by Robert Evans' 2007 centenary lecture, 'The Creighton century: British historians and Europe, 1907-2007'. The lectures provide a fascinating insight into the development of the discipline of history over the 20th and early 21st century, revealing some significant changes in approach and emphasis as well as some surprising continuities
