Summary This book presents the different forms of armed conflict and assesses their impact and their political and spatial implications. It distinguishes inter-eratic war, or "classic" war: opposing states by means of their respective armies, and intra-eratic conflicts, or civil wars, now the most common manifestation of armed violence in the world. Of war, the work also presents political violence, in particular the phenomena linked to uprisings, revolutions and repression. The demographic dimension is not forgotten, because the transformation of the settlement involves different mass crimes (massacres, genocides, ethnic cleansing). Finally, the analysis of the economic dimension of wars, considered as factors of impoverishment or enrichment, highlights the decisive relationship between economy and war. Globalization and the pessimistic vision of a world structured by violence, it is important to go beyond the simple war / peace divide and to underline, on the contrary, the variety of forms of armed violence in contemporary societies.
