Summary |
The main focus of the Committee on Petition’s work in 2011 was on issues related to the ‘Environment’ and ‘Fundamental Rights’ thus confirming the trend of previous years. The prominence of these issues during 2011 runs like a beacon through all the work of the Committee: discussions of existing petitions, new instances received, Reports, Hearings and Fact-Finding Visits (FFV). Overall, the number of new submissions increased, whereas the number of petitions registered steadily declined. This result can be explained by a filtering process — introduced as of June 2011 — by which so-called ‘questionable submissions’ were answered by other services |
