Summary |
"Indigenous Australians receive legal services through an array of publicly funded mainstream (Legal Aid Commissions (LACs)) and Community Legal Centres (CLCs)) and Indigenous specific organisations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (ATSILSs)) and Family Violence Prevention Legal Services (FVPLSs))...The Inquiry examined the adequacy of access that Indigenous Australians have to legal services. While acknowledging the high level of need for criminal law services in the Indigenous community, the Committee focused on issues of access to family and civil law services particularly by persons in danger of harm." -- from the Executive Summay, p. xxiii |
