Description 1 online resource (18 minutes)
Summary Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the complaint of involuntary loss of urine during episodes of high intraabdominal pressure like laughing, sneezing, jumping, etc. It occurs due to loss of urethral support resulting in inadequate urethral closure against episodes of high intra-abdominal pressure. On failure of conservative and medical treatment, surgical procedure is advised to restore the normal intra-abdominal position of the urethra by reinforcing its supports. This video shows the steps of burch colposuspension in a female patient. The viewer would be able to see the steps of the procedure such as entering into the retropubic space of Retzius, placement of proximal sutures, placement of distal sutures, the technique of tension-free suture tying also how to perform the intraoperative check for any damage to the urinary tract. This video also showcases the laparoscopic and robotic routes of colposuspension that have made the procedure less invasive as well; with less blood loss, less pain, fewer complications, faster recovery, short hospital stay, and better cosmetic results
